Munich & Prague
A beer-filled weekend🍻
Munich, Germany
Day One: We set off to Germany to be there for Springfest, which we had heard was pretty much Octoberfest but in the springtime. But for some reason at the very end of May it snowed several inches the day we arrived to Muinch, so not very spring-like. When we arrived at the location in the middle of Munich it looked like a school fair, with many enormous tents lined up with picnic tables inside and games outside. There was an incredible amount of people dressed in traditional lederhosen drinking a pitcher of German beer. There was loud German music blasting and people were standing and jumping on the picnic tables. It was definitely quite an experience to see so many people (usually studying abroad in Europe) come together for this one event to celebrate Germany. But after this outing, that consumed our whole day, we were utterly and completely exhausted (clearly not good with day drinking).
Day Two: The next day after a late start to the day, we made sure to see some of Munich before our bus left for Prague. We visited Marienplatz, the central square in Germany that is at the center of the city. We shopped and walked around for the rest of the afternoon and enjoyed our last pitcher ofGerman beer before we met our bus to go to Prague!
Prague, Czech Republic
Day One: We were so excited to leave the snow of Munich and be in Prague on such a warm and clear spring day, that we rushed to our hotel to drop our bags off and headed straight to the Old Town Square. What we saw seemed like a scene out of a movie. The backdrop was set with a row of pastel-colored buildings surrounding an ancient looking church. In the plaza, there were all kinds of people some making gigantic bubbles, some eating trdelník ( a cake-like pastry wrapped around chocolate), and others riding their bikes around enjoying the beautiful day.
We crossed the Charles Bridge which was lined with vendors selling little paintings, sketches, and postcards of Prague and at the banks, we fed a whole colony of swans. Once on the other side of the river, we trekked up the hill and to Prague Castle. When we arrived at the top, we saw the most incredible view of the city and its red tile rooftops and enjoyed a beer. Everywhere we went, we were told that beer was literally cheaper than water so we had the perfect excuse to be drinking! We walked back to the square and enjoyed the last few hours of sunlight in the city with some cocktails (and some beers of course) on a rooftop bar called Terasa U Prince. We watched the sky slowly turn to night while watching the Astronomical Clock in the Old Town Square strike on the hour. We left Prague the next day in complete awe of this one-of-a-kind city.
After this trip, I vowed to myself and my bikini bod that I would not have beer again for some time….
